Hike up Mt Hiei (Friday afternoon, May 12)
We'll meet at Shugakuin station on the Eizan Line at 13:00. The hike is quite tough for inexperienced hikers. Bring plenty of water and some energy snacks. Wear strong shoes. The views from the top are fabulous. The mountain azaleas should be in bloom. We will walk down by a different route to Yase station (also on the Eizan train line.) People who are tired can take the cable car down to Yase (540 yen one way). Total walking time 4-5 hours. For information on transportation see https://www.kyotostation.com/the-eizan-electric-railway-for-kibune-kurama-mount-hiei.
Trail running (Friday afternoon, May 12)
Trail running up Daimonji, along the Kyoto Trail on Higashiyama, and down to Fushimi Inari. Return to central Kyoto via JR or Keihan train lines. Starting at 13:30 at Demachiyanagi Station. Running time 3~4 hours but people can leave the run at many places on the way. Led by Paul, a Kiwi in Kyoto. We will try and cater to as wide a range of experience levels and wishes as possible. Runners will be responsible for providing and carrying their own clothing, fluids, food and first aid equipment.
