Appendix 1: A Sample Harry Potter Interaction


Directions: In the scene where Harry, his uncle, his aunt, and his cousin are in the dining room eating breakfast and talking about Dudley's birthday presents and they went to a zoo. Have the students watch the scene once. Pause the video at the scene and ask the following questions in English.
Q: What's his name? A: His name is Harry Potter.
Q: Where is it? A: It is a dining room.
Q: Who is that man? A: He is Harry's uncle.
Q: Who is that woman? A: She is Harry's aunt.
Q: Who is that boy? A: He is Harry's cousin, Dudley.
Q: How many people are there in this room? A: There are four people.
Q: Are they eating, breakfast, lunch or dinner? A: Breakfast.
Q: Whose birthday is it? A: Dudley's.
Q: How many presents did he get this year? A: He got 36.
Q: How about last year? A: 37.
Q: Where did they go yesterday? A: They went to the zoo.
Q: What did Harry see? A: He saw a snake.
Q: Did he talk with a snake? A: Yes, he did.
Q: What did the snake say to him when it ran out of the zoo? A: Thanks.
Q: How did Harry respond to the snake? A: He said, "Anytime."
