Okinawa Tours (PanSIG 2016)

May 20-23, 2016, we will all be in Okinawa for interesting, inspiring, and useful presentations. While you are there, if you are interested in learning more about this beautiful region and its culture, we have two tours available, one on Friday to Ocean Expo Park, which includes the world-class Churaumi Aquarium, and one on Monday to Shurijo Castle, a world heritage site.

If you are interested, please fill out this questionnaire by Wednesday, May 18.

11:00-11:15 Check-in at Nago Bus Terminal (not far from Meio University)

11:15-11:35 Buy roundtrip bus tickets (each individual buys own tickets) OR IF ENOUGH CARS WE WILL GO BY CAR

11:35-11:45 Board the bus OR CAR

11:50-12:49 Ride from Nago Bus Terminal to Churaumi Aquarium bus stop/PARKING LOT

12:49-18:45 Free sightseeing within Ocean Expo Park (see below)

18:45-19:00 Board bus/CAR at Churaumi Aquarium bus stop

19:01-19:58 Ride from Churaumi Aquarium bus stop to Nago Bus Terminal

8:00-10:00 OPTIONAL Group Dinner

Ocean Expo Park (built for the 1975 Okinawa International Ocean Expo)

Okinawa Churaumi Aquarium: World-class aquarium of Okinawan seas (1,850yen)

Tropical Dream: Three greenhouses with over 2,000 orchids tropical and subtropical flowers and tropical fruits (690yen)

Oceanic Culture Museum: The culture and life of Oceania (170yen)

Oceanic Culture Museum planetarium hall: The night skies of Oceania (170yen)

Emerald Beach: Beautiful white sand beach (swimming and bathing)(FREE)

Okichan (Dolphin) Theater & Lagoon: Dolphin show (FREE)

Sea Turtle Pool:Sea turtles that live in the sea around Okinawa can be observed from above and below the surface of the water (FREE)

Manatee Pool: Manatees can be observed from above and below the surface of the water (FREE)

Native Okinawan Village: Reproduction of a 17th to 19th century Okinawan village (FREE)

Arboretum: Sample Okinawan gardens (FREE)

Banko Forest: Relaxing forest walk (FREE)

Sunset Square Resthouse: Observation deck and resthouse (FREE)

Seven cafes and restaurants: Okinawan, Japanese, and Western food (admission free, except restaurants/cafes in aquarium and Tropical Dream which require aquarium/Tropical Dream ticket for entry (Menu prices)

Shuttle carts: Golf-cart-like electric buses that take you around the park (100yen for one ride, 200yen all day pass)
